Wanted: time lapse feature for Casio EX-F1!
I love making time lapse clips! I do not love to carry around all the time this dedicated stuff needed to make them, like when travelling to and from job with a heavy laptop. So I miss out making potentially great time lapse recordings on quite many occasions.
What I use for time lapse recording is either Canon cameras that can run the CHDK hack (http://chdk.wikia.com/wiki/Main_Page) and a script that makes them snap frames at programmed time intervals or a dedicated timing device for controlling cameras with an infrared remote or a cable remote. You might argue, such a timing device could be something you carry anyway, such as your mobile phone. Sure, I tried that. Problem with that approach is unreliability and the fact that it is a phone low on batteries after a long day. I rather use a device called “The Time Machine” (http://www.bmumford.com/photo/camctlr.html), cables and stuff, and a DSLR with a suited lens, not always an option on the daily commute. So, what could come to the rescue when driving home from job angry at a greedy boss who made you work unpaid overtime and the most beautiful light makes for a great time lapse that night? Trade union for sure won’t and by the time you arrive home and grab your camera the opportunity is gone.
Well, in such a situation I usually wish for that carry-around camera that can everything. The Casio EX-F1 can do a lot: still images, HD video, high speed video, and high speed bursts. It features a big zoom range and close-up capability. But no time lapse. Given all the other features it has, making an interval timer in addition to its build in 3x timer, seems like the easiest thing in the world to implement. So, Casio, please give us a firmware update with interval timer, something like 2-100 shots, 1-60 seconds interval. Thank you very much. Until this happens we have at least the cable remote and just have to count the seconds between shots.
And those of you liking time lapse shooting should all word this request on the Casio customer support page, like I did years ago for the EX-Z1000 already. No, it did not help.
